What My Pup Eats in a Week: Lamb Recipe

This homemade lamb dog recipe is nutritious, easy to prep, and perfect for weekly meals! Cooking lamb and veggies in the crockpot, boiling eggs, making rice, and mixing everything together ensures a balanced, dog-friendly meal. Add salmon oil daily at serving time for healthy omega-3s. Top with chicken liver, blueberries, or cheese cubes for extra flavor and enrichment.

Ingredients (makes ~7 servings)

  • 5 lbs ground lamb
  • 7 boiled eggs
  • 2–3 cups cooked rice (adjust based on dog size)
  • 2 cups chopped spinach
  • 6 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 orange bell pepper, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, diced

Optional Toppings (small amounts per serving)

  • Cooked chicken livers
  • Blueberries
  • Cheese cubes
  • Salmon oil (add 1 tsp per serving at meal time)

Instructions

  1. Cook Lamb & Veggies in Crockpot:
    • Place 5 lbs ground lamb, chopped spinach, diced celery, and diced bell peppers (orange, red, yellow) into your crockpot.
    • Cook on low for 4–5 hours until the lamb is fully cooked and the veggies are soft.
  2. Chop Ingredients:
    • Let the lamb & veggies cool slightly, then chop or crumble into bite-sized pieces.
    • Chop the boiled eggs into small pieces.
  3. Cook Rice:
    • Prepare 2–3 cups of rice according to package instructions.
  4. Mix Everything Together:
    • In a large bowl, combine chopped lamb & veggies, chopped eggs, and cooked rice. Mix until evenly combined.
  5. Portion for the Week:
    • Divide into 7 equal portions. Let cool completely.
    • Refrigerate up to 3 days; freeze the rest in single-serving containers.
  6. Serve & Add Salmon Oil:
    • Serve at room temperature. Add 1 tsp salmon oil per serving, and optional toppings like chicken liver, blueberries, or cheese cubes.
    • Recommendation: For a fully balanced diet, add a daily dog-safe multivitamin.

Safety & Notes

  • Introduce gradually if your dog hasn’t had lamb, bell peppers, or salmon oil before.
  • Salmon oil is healthy in small amounts; 1 tsp per serving is ideal.
  • Celery and bell peppers are safe for dogs; 6 celery stalks and 3 bell peppers spread across 7 servings should be fine.
  • This recipe is safe for short-term or weekly feeding, but adding a daily multivitamin ensures your dog gets all essential nutrients.
  • Monitor digestion, especially during the first few days.
