Maximize Your Petco Rewards: Smart Shopping for Dog Parents

Being a dog mom means there is always something to buy. Between food, treats, toys, grooming supplies, enrichment activities, and unexpected expenses, pet costs can add up quickly.

With two dogs, Tarzan and Cora, I’m always looking for ways to save money while still giving them the love, care, and fun they deserve. One of my favorite ways to stretch my pet budget is by using my Petco membership and rewards.

Saving money doesn’t mean our dogs have to miss out on the things they love. Sometimes it’s just about finding smarter ways to shop.

How My Petco Rewards Help Me Save

I pay about $21 a month for my Petco membership, and one of the biggest benefits is receiving $15 in Petco rewards each month that I can use toward purchases.

Since I’m already buying things for my dogs, I look at these rewards as money I can put back toward items I would have purchased anyway.

I usually use my rewards for:

  • 🐾 Toys
  • 🧩 Enrichment and puzzle toys
  • 🦴 Treats and chews
  • 🛁 Grooming products
  • 🐕 Dog accessories
  • 🎉 Seasonal items

Instead of feeling like I’m spending extra money on fun items, I know I’m using rewards that I earned through my regular pet purchases.

My Favorite Way to Maximize My Rewards

One thing I like to do is let my rewards build up before using them.

For example, if I receive my $15 in rewards on July 5th, I may decide not to use them right away. Instead, I wait until closer to the expiration date. During that time, I receive my next month’s rewards, which means I now have $30 available to spend.

The important thing is remembering that rewards have expiration dates.

If my July rewards expire on August 10th, I make sure to use them before they disappear. By planning my purchases this way, I can combine rewards from different months and make a bigger purchase instead of using smaller amounts every month.

A Real Example: My $1.01 Petco Haul

One of my favorite things about using rewards is seeing how far I can stretch them.

Recently, I used my accumulated Petco rewards and was able to purchase several items for Tarzan and Cora while only paying $1.01 out of pocket.

That moment made me so happy because I knew I was bringing home things my dogs would enjoy without adding a large expense to my budget.

Tarzan loves having new toys to carry around, and Cora loves anything that keeps her busy and challenges her mind. Enrichment toys are especially fun for her because they give her something positive to focus on.

Being able to provide those experiences while saving money is exactly why I love using rewards programs.

Other Ways My Petco Membership Helps Me Save

The monthly rewards are one of my favorite benefits, but they are not the only way the membership helps.

The membership also includes additional discounts on things like food, vet visits, and other pet-related purchases.

Since pet care is already part of my monthly budget, those percentage discounts can add up over time. Even saving a little on things I regularly purchase can make a difference throughout the year.

For me, the value comes from combining different savings opportunities:

  • Monthly rewards
  • Member discounts
  • Planning purchases
  • Watching for promotions

Things to Keep in Mind With Rewards Programs

While rewards programs can be a great way to save money, they work best when you use them strategically.

A few things I always keep in mind:

  • Don’t buy something just because you have rewards available. Make sure it is something you actually need or want.
  • Pay attention to expiration dates. Rewards are only helpful if you use them before they disappear.
  • Compare prices. Make sure you are still getting a good deal.
  • Avoid overspending. Saving money only works if you are still sticking to your budget.

For me, the Petco membership is worth it because I already shop for my dogs regularly, and I’m able to use the benefits toward things I would purchase anyway.

My Tips for Getting the Most Out of Pet Rewards

Here are the things that help me maximize my savings:

⭐ Track your rewards
Keep an eye on when rewards are added and when they expire.

⭐ Let rewards build up
When possible, save them so you can make a larger purchase.

⭐ Plan your shopping trips
Use rewards for items you already planned to buy.

⭐ Combine savings when possible
Take advantage of discounts and promotions to make your rewards go even further.

Final Thoughts

Being a pet parent can be expensive, but small savings can make a big difference.

For me, using Petco rewards is a simple way to continue spoiling Tarzan and Cora while staying mindful of my budget. It allows me to provide them with toys, enrichment, and supplies without feeling like every purchase is adding extra financial stress.

At the end of the day, our dogs deserve the best, and finding ways to save helps us give them more of the things that make them happy.
